Death at The Greene triggers a lawsuit to ponder
If you didn’t see this story in this morning’s newspaper, check out the piece from my colleague Christopher Magan headlined “Lawsuit filed after death at The Greene”.
It is .. it is … well, it is worth reading.

the legal system should not reward stupidity the victim (i hate to use that word since he is really a victim only of his own making)made bad choices and his estate should not benefit from that. the gene pool is a little cleaner!

I have been there and have been drunk there, and I made it down the stairs fine. HE SLID DOWN THE RAIL. You could fall over sober doing that kind of thing. It is sad, but AG is not expecting someone to do what he did - enclose the stair well. He could have fell down the stairs though.

I think the biggest lesson for Adobe Gilas is that when a patron becomes an out-of-control drunk, be sure to take them OUTSIDE of the door and not leave them half-way in the bar, next to a staircase of all things. As a business owner I would consider someone in that condition a liability that needs to not be on our property. Although a tragedy, I don’t think this lawsuit is warranted as the real responsibility of this death lies on the victim and the choices he made that night. I would bet his friends are probably more responsible than the bar is. A frivolous lawsuit possible motivated by greed, but my guess based more on misdirected grief.
