It was a dark and steamy Thursday night, when suddenly a wine tasting broke out
The crack team at the Dayton-based wine listserv that compiles the wine tastings, dinners and special events that we publish here on Uncorked sent a sterling list out early in the day yesterday, on Wednesday, describing events last night and tonight, but your Uncorked author was asleep at the wheel (well, slaving away at his laptop, actually) and failed to post it in a timely manner. So here’s a list of fine, fun events happening tonight, along with a few that occurred last night … Enjoy!

I agree with Dennis, on the champagnes and wishing that more people had taken the opportunity to compare the wines paired with fresh seafood, especially the 98 Blanc de Blanc with oysters.

Great tasting at Jay’s last night. The champagnes were superb. My favorite was the rose (100% Pinot Noir); crisp rich notes of cherry and a spicy cinnamon finish. Also the 98 Blanc de Blanc was a big yeasty rich mouthful that spent 6 years on the lees. Great match with the oysters. I wish more people had dropped by to truly see the great range of flavors and styles of champagne from this single family grower. It does not get much better on a hot summer evening than cold bubblies and fresh chilled shellfish. Chef Chris mentioned there are some new touches coming to the menu soon.
