RedHawks defeat Raiders

OXFORD — Kenny Hayes made a driving layup with 21.3 seconds to play and Wright State’s Vaughn Duggins missed a short baseline jumper as the clock expired today which ended the afternoon in a 56-55 Miami victory over Wright State at Millett Hall.

The victory ended a three-game Miami losing streak while also terminating a three-game WSU winning streak

Troy Tabler led the Raiders with 23 points, but Todd Brown, the team’s leading scorer, was held to just two points on 1-of-10 shooting.

Over the last four seasons, the teams have played four times, each winning twice. Both of WSU’s victories were also by a single point.

A great game once again with the Redhawks but wow… WSU can’t close out ANYONE this year. The defense is bad (percentage wise) and we’re taking way too many 3’s.

I don’t think we are shooting too many threes, I think we are missing too many threes. We had the open shots and didn’t convert. Miami played a nice enough game to keep it close but, the refs were the star of the show. So, if you went to see them decide the game, you might have liked it.

3 loses to a total of 8 points. 2 of our 3 road loses are to teams with 5 total wins between them……….Thats hard to swallow.

At the end of the day we have to win these games. Losing these kind of games is what is keeping us at home in March. Every game since Washington we’ve been in control to win and we continue to let teams back in it down the strectch.

Agreed these games are what may keep us back, but before everyone freaks, know that N’eastern’s 5 losses are to quality teams, and by a combined total of 20 points. Miami’s schedule is the hardest in the country so far, so losing those two games, on the road, on last second shots is not shameful. It’s that we had them beat is what is tough. THis is still a 20+ win team. We are 8 points from being 9-0.
