A Springfield Auto Truck Transport USA Inc. (ATT) site could be endangered if the company’s contract with Navistar is not renewed, ATT recently told the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services.

ATT “is issuing this notice for purely precautionary reasons, as the plant closing would only be necessary if ATT’s contract with its longtime customer, Navistar, is not renewed,” Ed Cumbo, ATT president, wrote in a letter to the state department dated Nov. 20. “The Navistar contract expires on Dec. 31, 2009.”

At risk are 186 union and non-union employees, Cumbo added.

If the plant at 6370 Urbana Road closes, the closure is expected to be permanent, he also wrote.

Cumbo could not be immediately reached for comment.
