COLUMBUS — Two energy projects in the Dayton region are among 25 across Ohio that have been selected to receive federal economic stimulus funding, Gov. Ted Strickland and other state officials said Monday, Nov. 30.
Affinity Building Systems Inc., of Brookville, was awarded $292,683 for installation of a rooftop solar energy system. It will help the company achieve an industry green-energy certification for housing in the conversion of a factory into housing in northwest Montgomery County, the Ohio Department of Development said.
The system is to generate 121,973 kilowatt-hours of electricity per year, state officials said.
The Parkway Local Schools district in Rockford, Mercer County, was awarded $16,080 to install a solar thermal system.
Strickland made the announcements at Lincoln Electric Co., a Cleveland-based company specializing in welding services, which is to receive a $1 million grant for installation of a 2.5-megawatt wind turbine at its Euclid manufacturing plant. The wind turbine is to serve as a demonstration of that technology, and will support the company’s strategy to pursue manufacturing opportunities in the wind energy industry, state officials said.
The grants are to support development of Ohio’s wind and solar energy industries, Strickland said. They were selected from among proposals submitted from across the state. Public and private entities that will carry out the projects had to commit to provide at least a 50 percent matching investment, complete the projects within a year, and show that they could create or retain jobs in Ohio, state officials said.
