ARLINGTON, Va. — The Air Force Office of Scientific Research said it will award a total of $14.6 million in grants to 38 scientists and engineers who submitted research proposals through the Air Force’s young investigator research program.
The awards will go to researchers at universities across the United States. The program is open to scientists and engineers who have received doctorates, or equivalent degrees, within the last five years and show exceptional ability for conducting basic research.
The researchers selected include one from the region, Christopher S. Hartley of Miami University, who is to study structures of nanomaterials.
The program is intended to encourage creative basic research in science and engineering, enhance career development of young researchers and increase their awareness of the Air Force mission, officials said. The Air Force Office of Scientific Research is part of the Air Force Research Laboratory, which has headquarters at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base.
