WEST CHESTER TWP. — The first once-weekly treatment for type 2 diabetes in the U.S. made by Amylin Pharmaceuticals is now available by prescription, the company announced.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration approved Bydureon Jan. 27. Bydureon is produced locally at Amylin’s West Chester Twp. manufacturing plant on Trade Port Drive.

San Diego, Calif.-based Amylin started operating in 2009 its local manufacturing plant, which employs approximately 300 people.
