Butler County restaurant closes its doors

Red Onion Bar & Grill, 214 S. Main St., now sports a “For Rent” sign instead of one reading “Open.”

The Monroe restaurant’s owner has not replied to a request for comment.

The restaurant was the latest in a string of ventures that opened and closed in the space, a more-than-160-year-old building that was once a stop on the stagecoach line between Cincinnati and Dayton.

The original Red Onion opened in 2006 but closed in May 2014, with its owner citing declining business and health issues.

Then, Main Street Social closed in January 2016 after about a year in business at the location.

City officials say they do not know exactly when the restaurant closed and had not heard of any potential new uses for the space.

Utilities were put back in the property owner’s name May 15, officials said.
