Dayton brings in top Silicon Valley venture today

Local startups will have the opportunity to pitch their ideas to a top venture capitalist from Silicon Valley Friday morning.

Dayton Catalyst is a community event bringing together entrepreneurs, investors and community leaders to learn about technology startups coming out of the region. The event lasts from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at the Dayton Masonic Center.

Catalyst first popped up in Dayton last year, and about 350 people attended the event. Now, organizations like Nucleus CoShare, the Air Force Research Laboratory and the Wright State Research Institute are partnering up for what is expected to be an even larger event this year.

The event will feature a keynote address from Simone Syed, a native of Dayton and top venture capitalist in San Francisco. She founded Velorum Capital in 2013, and was recently recognized as one of the “Silicon Valley Investors You Need to Know in 2016” by Inc. Magazine.

Local startups will have the opportunity to pitch their ideas during a competition.

The event has been supported by the city of Dayton, Tech Town, Ikove Venture Partners, SPG Global Inc. and Treble One Aerospace Consulting. Interested attendees can find tickets on the Catalyst website.
