A local company will help make digital displays you may soon see in banks and credit unions.
Bloomberg will offer a digital news and advertising service for retail financial sites that will use Stratacache’s digital signage tools, Stratacache’s chief executive said Thursday, Oct. 1.
Stratacache is a Dayton company that produces digital signage systems, such as the iPhone obelisks AT&T and Apple used, and Omnicast for digital content, a tool to move films and other content to computers and mobile phones.
Stratacache will form a subsidiary, StrataMedia, for the Bloomberg project.
“This is a pretty big thing,” Chris Riegel, Stratacache CEO, told the Dayton Daily News. “(It) will end up in us hiring additional people in Dayton and growing the business.”
In the “Daily DOOH” technology blog (www.dailydooh.com), blog writer Adrian Cotterill wrote Thursday that the news is “a big, big deal for Stratacache as we see news and content giant Bloomberg enter the digital-out-of-home-space.”
“Over the next 24 months, we would anticipate adding 20 to 30 people to support this (project) alone,” Riegel said. Those 20 to 30 employees will work in Dayton, with the company potentially adding about 100 new employees worldwide, he added.
Stratacache will make the software for the signs, which will be commercial LCD displays made by LG, Samsung, Sony and others, Riegel said.
The deal is a “worldwide exclusive” with Bloomberg, representing what Riegel called a “major win” for his company.
“We anticipate deploying tens of thousands of new devices in support of this project globally,” the CEO wrote.
The relationship with Bloomberg is a new one, Riegel said, with the news provider performing an “exhaustive review,” interviewing companies that are competitors of Stratacache and choosing the local company based on its “experience and technology,” he said.
