Dayton hospital buys neighboring dry cleaner

Miami Valley Hospital has bought the dry cleaner next door to its campus.

The Dayton hospital, an affiliate of Premier Health, purchased the building that’s now home to Executive Cleaners & Laundry for $490,000 in a sale recorded Nov. 27.

The 838 S. Main St. property that Miami Valley bought is adjacent to the hospital campus and across the street from the former Montgomery County Fairgrounds, which Premier and University of Dayton plan to redevelop.

The 8,700-square-foot building was built in 1922, according to Montgomery County property records. The property was tentatively valued by the county this year at $91,190.

Miami Valley hospital officials did not immediately return calls about its future plans for the property.

Larry Beddies, owner of Executive Cleaners, said he is moving the dry cleaner’s drop off and pick up center down the block to 515 Warren St., where he hopes to start operations by Monday.

As a Dayton native and business owner, Beddies said he wanted to maintain a presence near where he had built up his customer base.

The cleaning production part of the business is moving to Centerville, where Beddies said he is buying two more dry cleaners: Metropolitan Cleaners at 70 N. Main St., Centerville and Gene’s Valet Services at 3040 Far Hills Ave.

Beddies said his longtime business partner Richard Rentz is retiring.
