Dayton logistics takes center stage

2nd annual conference begins Tuesday

The second Southwest Ohio Logistics conference is next Tuesday at Sinclair Community College.

The conference is a way of networking and exploring in a market that’s increasingly important to the Dayton area — marketing and logistics.

Companies like Caterpillar Logistics, Heidelberg, Spectrum Auto Brands, Procter & Gamble, Payless Stores and others all have a distribution presence in the region. Local leaders want that presence to grow.

Chris Kershner, Dayton Area Chamber of Commerce vice president of public policy and economic development, said the conference is a way to “put a stake in the ground and showcase to the world that logistics is alive and booming in the Dayton region.”

The conference will attract decision-makers from across the state who work in logistics, he said. “It’s really becoming a showcase for what’s happening in logistics right now and what will be happening in logistics in the future,” Kershner said.

Last year’s conference, the first, drew 174 people. He expects closer to 200 this year.

Speakers will include Vasiliy Faustov, supply chain engineer and analyst at Caterpillar Logistics Services, Inc., Suzanne Perry, chief human resources officer at Staffmark Holdings Inc., Shawn Palmatier, president at Strategy3, Inc., a Dayton industrial engineering consultant, among others.

The keynote will be delivered by Jerry Wray, director of the Ohio Department of Transportation.

“We’re going to be talking about emerging trends for HR and workforce recruitment,” Kershner said. “We’re going to talk about how technology is being used to make logistics and distribution more efficient and effective. We’re going to talk about upcoming legislative issues impacting the logistics industry.

“It’s really going to be a nice showcase,” he added.

The event will be 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Sinclair Building 12, 444 W. Third St., Dayton.
