DAYTON — Dayton International Airport officials hope to request contractor bids in mid-October for demolition of the 40-year-old Dayton Airport Hotel, which is to be razed to make way for a parking lot.
The contractor chosen will have the tricky job of demolishing the hotel while keeping intact the adjacent PSA Airlines training facility, which includes flight simulators.
City engineers are consulting with PSA Airlines prior to completing the demolition plan, said Walter Krygowski, Dayton’s interim director of aviation.
Demolition could start in November. The economy-rate parking lot, intended for credit-card use by customers, would be created next year.
Airport management closed the city-owned Airport Hotel in January, declaring it obsolete and a money-loser. Under an agreement with Dayton, a developer is seeking financing to build a Holiday Inn Hotel and Suites on airport property in 2011, leasing the land from the city.
PSA Airlines, based at Dayton International Airport, flies under the US Airways Express name. The carrier is a wholly owned subsidiary of US Airways Group.
