HEBRON, Ky. — DHL, which closed its Wilmington freight hub two years ago and wiped out 8,000 jobs at Clinton County’s largest employer, said it will invest $22.5 million to expand its replacement cargo-sorting hub at Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport.

DHL said Wednesday that, starting in March, it will build on 19 acres leased from the airport to expand its existing aircraft parking apron and build nine new aircraft gates. That will accommodate wide-body aircraft to make deliveries between the United States and points in Asia, Europe and the Americas.

It is the second phase of a two-year, $40 million project to expand DHL operations at the airport, located across the Ohio River from Cincinnati, DHL said.
