Farm leases to be topic of upcoming OSU program

CLAYTON — A farm lease negotiation program will be held from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 17, at the Miami Valley Career Technology Center, 6800 Hoke Road, Room 179.

The program, which also will provide an update on the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s agricultural services, is sponsored by two agencies in Montgomery County, Ohio State University Extension and the USDA’s Farm Service Agency.

Registration is $15 per person if paid by Nov. 12 and is $25 at the door. For information, call OSU Extension, 1001 S. Main St., Dayton, or (937) 224-9654.

Peggy Kirk-Hall, director of agricultural and resource law program for OSU Extension, will discuss written vs. verbal leases, Ohio’s Statute of Frauds, and working with an attorney.

Barry Ward, an assistant professor at Ohio State University, will cover Ohio cropland values, enterprise budgets, ways to determine cash rent, and flexible cash rental arrangements.

Dan Ennist, executive director of the Farm Service Agency in Montgomery County, will discuss eligibility for several farm programs.
