UD graduate top exec with company in Verizon deal

Verizon Communications is selling 29 data centers to Equinix Inc. for $3.6 billion, Reuters reported this morning.

The data centers being sold are located in 15 metro areas in the United States and Latin America, including New York, Atlanta, Chicago, Bogota and Sao Paulo.

One of the top executives at Equinix is a graduate of University of Dayton. Michael Campbell is the chief sales officer at Equinix and is responsible for sales efforts globally at the company.

One of Campbell's first starts was at NCR in Dayton. He also has worked at UUNET, CompuServe, MCI and WorldCom.

Campbell joined Equinix in 2015 with over 30 years of international sales leadership experience. Campbell holds a B.S. in marketing, with a minor in communications, from UD.

The sale represents Verizon’s efforts to streamline its business and follows the divestment last year of a chunk of its landline business and a portfolio of wireless towers, Reuters reported.

The company said about 250 Verizon employees, mainly in the operations functions of the acquired data centers, will become Equinix employees.
