Honda of America Manufacturing recognized the 20th anniversary of its East Liberty, Ohio auto plant recently.

The plant started producing Civic sedans on Dec. 18, 1989, the company said.

Besides Civics, vehicles built there included the Element in 2002 — the first light-truck model made by a Honda plant in North America on the same assembly line with passenger cars. The Honda CR-V sport-utility vehicle followed Element in 2006.

Today, Honda operates nine manufacturing facilities in the United States that produce automobiles, all-terrain vehicles, engines and power equipment products.

Honda has nearly 15,000 employees in Ohio manufacturing plants and other facilities. The American Honda Motor Co. has a distribution center in Troy, off South Stanfield Road, with about 340 employees.
