Kettering Health to build hospital in Troy, create 120 jobs

Facility will be network’s first in Miami County.

Kettering Health Network started construction on its ninth area hospital Thursday afternoon, a Miami County facility that will create 120 new jobs.

The health system plans to build a three-story, nearly 100,000 square-foot hospital on land it purchased in downtown Troy, at 600 W. Main Street.

In addition to inpatient beds, services will include an emergency department, lab and imaging, surgery center and a medical office building for physician practices. The 120 new jobs will include physicians, registered nurses, respiratory therapists, imaging and lab technicians and support staff, Kettering Health said.

While Kettering Health has eight area hospitals, including locations in Montgomery, Greene and Butler counties, the Troy location will be the network’s first in Miami County.

“This new facility marks our entrance into the Troy and Miami County communities,” said Fred Manchur, Kettering Health Network CEO, in a statement. “We look forward to serving these communities and connecting people to better and faster access to quality health care.”

Troy mayor Michael Beamish said that the city is “thrilled” to start construction on the new hospital, and he noted his affinity for the reputation that Kettering Health Network has built in the Dayton area.

“It fits our philosophy here in Troy. They’re faith-based, they believe in ‘team,’ and they have a strong health network that will fit our community,” Beamish said. “It seems to be a fit for us.”

Kettering Health’s new facility is expected to cost around $60 million and is scheduled to be completed in late 2018.

Premier Health’s Upper Valley Medical Center, located less than four miles north of Kettering Health’s new hospital, has served as Troy’s largest emergency care center since 1986. Beamish said that the city’s new hospital will add “healthy competition” to the area.

Kettering Health’s Troy hospital is the latest in a series of recent multi-million dollar ventures by the network. In May, Kettering Health announced its plans for an $8 million expansion of its Kettering Cancer Care unit at Soin Medical Center in Beavercreek.

Construction is expected to begin in early June on the first phase of the expansion, which will focus on the infusion center for chemotherapy patients at Kettering Cancer Care. The expanded infusion center, which will double in size to 13,000 square feet, is expected to be completed by October and will create six to eight new jobs.

Kettering Health Network also announced in May that they plan to build a $30 million medical facility in Middletown. The facility will rest on 15 acres of land on Ohio 122, just southeast of Interstate 75.

The 67,000-square-foot medical center will offer a full-service emergency department, outpatient lab and imaging services and medical office building for physician practices. It is expected to create 110 new jobs.

Kettering Health Network is one of the region’s largest employers, with more than 12,000 people and total 2016 net revenues of approximately $1.5 billion.
