KETTERING — Kettering Health Network Chief Executive Frank Perez on Friday described successor Fred Manchur as a demonstrated leader with a loyal following, a prolific recruiter, relentless in nurturing ties with everyone from physicians to philanthropists, and “sincere to the core.”
Manchur also is a “bundle of energy,” Perez said. “Just watch him walk. He’s walking, you’re running.”
KHN on Friday, Aug. 6, said Manchur will become CEO of the network on Dec. 1. He will retain the title of president.
Candice Christenson, who served on the membership board that selected Manchur, said a national search validated the board’s sense that Manchur, 58, was the right Seventh-day Adventist to lead the organization into the future.
Christenson said while both men have similarities, Manchur is different from Perez.
“Partly because our medical center network is at a different stage and partly because of his personality, I think he is going to encourage and ask for more input from his leadership team before he rolls out a particular decision,” Christenson said. “I’m not sure Frank had that luxury when he first came.”
Prior to accepting the No. 2 spot in Kettering Health Network in January 2009, Manchur served as Kettering Medical Center’s president. He held leadership positions at three other Seventh-day Adventist hospitals in the Los Angeles area. He holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Andrews University in Berrien Springs, Mich., and a master’s in public health from Loma Linda University in California.
