Labor demand slips in Ohio

The number of online help-wanted ads in Ohio fell sharply in September, dropping by 5,900 to 162,000, according to the latest tally from The Conference Board.

The drop in help-wanted ads was the largest statewide decline in the Midwest, followed by Illinois, down 5,300; Minnesota, down 4,400; and Michigan, down 3,800, the nonprofit business research group reported Wednesday.

On a per capita basis, there were 2.81 help wanted ads for every unemployed worker in Ohio last month, down from 2.91 in August.

Nationwide, online advertised vacancies decreased by 93,800 to about 4.7 million in September, with most of the losses coming from professional categories, such as business and finance, health care professionals, and management.
