DAYTON — Eight local businesses and agencies have received the 2009 Alfred P. Sloan Award for Business Excellence in Workplace Flexibility, according to the Dayton Area Chamber of Commerce.

The companies are:

  • Better Business Bureau of Dayton/Miami Valley Inc.
  • Booz Allen Hamilton
  • Brower Insurance Agency LLC
  • Cornerstone Research Group Inc.
  • Iformata Communications
  • LeVeck Lighting Products, Inc.
  • Premier Community Health
  • SummitQwest

The Dayton Area Chamber of Commerce also said it received an honorable mention.

The award, offered in 30 communities nationwide, is based on criteria such as employee feedback. It also recognizes businesses that, for example, use flexible work arrangements to minimize layoffs, and that find creative ways to cut costs that retain core medical benefits.

The Dayton Area Chamber of Commerce will recognize the businesses on Nov. 18.
