Appleton Paper Inc., which employs about 400 people at its West Carrollton paper mill, reported a rise in net income for the most recent quarter and for the year so far.
Net income for the third quarter of 2011 was just more than $18 million, compared to a net loss of nearly $1.5 million in the same quarter last year, the company said.
For the year to date, net income was just more than $9.5 million, well above the net loss of nearly $23.9 million reported at the same point in 2010, Appleton also said.
Third quarter sales of $217.1 million rose slightly, 1 percent, compared to the same quarter last year, Appleton said. Operating income was $11.2 million compared to operating income of $13.1 million in the third quarter of 2010.
Net sales for the first nine months were put at $651.7 million, a slight increase of 0.9 percent compared to the same point last year.
The company said its thermal paper business — one of the products at West Carrollton — saw sales grow 9 percent compared to the third quarter last year.
