WRIGHT-PATTERSON AIR FORCE BASE — Defense contractors Lockheed Martin Corp. and L-3 Communications received Air Force contract assignments worth a total of more than $1 billion to support aircraft modernization and flight training programs.
The Aeronautical Systems Center at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base awarded the work. The center manages a broad array of key aircraft and weapons programs for the Air Force.
Lockheed Martin’s aeronautical systems business received four separate orders with a combined value of $889,054,970 to provide materials, production and installation support for the Air Force’s ongoing program to install upgraded engines and aviation electronics on some of its massive C-5 Galaxy transport planes, many of which have been flying for decades.
L-3 Communications was awarded a $469,560,000 contract to provide contractor logistical support for F-16 training system, aircrew and maintenance programs. It involves support at Air Force bases across the United States and overseas, as well as foreign military sales to Greece, Bahrain and Jordan, the Defense Department said.
