CINCINNATI — Sales at Macy’s Inc. increased by 6 percent in August over the same month a year ago, the retailer reported on Thursday, Sept. 2.
Sales for the month were $1.64 billion, compared with $1.54 billion in August 2009. At stores open at least a year, sales were up 4 percent.
The company’s 850 department stores nationwide include Macy’s stores at the Dayton Mall and the Mall at Fairfield Commons.
For the year to date, Macy’s sales nationally increased by 7 percent to $12.75 billion, up from $11.9 billion at this point in 2009. At stores open at least a year, sales were up 5 percent.
Onlines sales through the macys.com and bloomingdales.com Web sites were up 22 percent in August and 30 percent for the year so far.
The Cincinnati-based retailer had sales of $23.5 billion last year. Its operations include Macy’s and Bloomingdale’s stores.
