Maker of Slim Jims starts $13M expansion in Troy

ConAgra Foods began construction this week on a $13 million addition project to the smokehouse at its Troy facility off Dye Mill Road.

The project calls for a building of around 10,000 square feet, said Rob England, Miami County’s chief building official. He said the first foundation footer was poured for the project on Tuesday. England told the county commissioners the company will use the additional space primarily for its Slim Jim snack food produced at the Troy facility.

Information was not yet available on the number of jobs the project would create. The company listed more than 700 employees in reports filed with the city at the end of 2014.

“They are helping the community for sure,” England said.
