A flash-fire Tuesday night caused by a natural-gas leak in a grill in the kitchen of Jay’s Restaurant inflicted burns to three employees, one of whom was hospitalized Wednesday, according to Amy Haverstick, the restaurant’s owner.

The incident prompted Jay's to shut down for the night Tuesday night, and the restaurant will remain closed tonight, Wednesday Feb. 22, Haverstick said. Jay's is expected to reopen Thursday for regular dinner service, following installation of a new grill, she said. READ MORE

Dayton-area home sales started the year strong, according to the Dayton Area Board of Realtors.

The board reported 834 transactions in January, a 1.71 percent increase over the 820 single-family and condominium sales reported in January 2016. A cumulative sales volume of $117 million was a 14 percent jump in a year-over-year comparison, the board said.

The percentage of list/sales price rose by almost one percent over last year to 97.4 percent. Entries of single-family homes and condominiums during the first month of 2017 fell 3.6 percent compared to last year, however. READ MORE

Raising Cane’s Chicken Fingers plans to build a new restaurant on a vacant lot near the North Fairfield/Kemp Road intersection in Beavercreek.

The restaurant could open as early as May, depending on weather and other factors, Andria Morgan, marketing manager for Raising Cane’s Dayton-area franchisee, told this news outlet today.

Plans submitted to the city of Beavercreek call for a 3,576-square-foot restaurant to be built on a vacant tract adjacent to a Speedway on Kemp Road just east of North Fairfield Road. READ MORE
