DAYTON — Community leaders concerned with staving off a “brain drain” of NCR talent from the Dayton area have unveiled a Web site that lets NCR employees anonymously search out local jobs.

The free site — www.ChooseDayton.com — also lets registered Dayton-area employers find the profiles of prospective employees.

ChooseDayton.com went live Wednesday Aug. 12.

In early June, NCR said it was shutting down most of its Dayton operations, moving its headquarters to Duluth, Ga. That process will be completed next year. That gives employees who have been offered jobs in Georgia time to consider whether they want to make that move, said Phil Parker, president and chief executive of the Dayton Area Chamber of Commerce.

“It doesn’t have to all occur in the next two weeks,” Parker said. “That’s the one good thing we’ve got going for us in this project.”

Employers who register on the site will see only user IDs and profiles of NCR employees who register. Those employees will remain anonymous, and employers can’t contact them directly. It will be up to employees to initiate contact.

“You probably don’t want them (NCR) to know that you’re looking to stay here in Dayton,” said Linda Ashworth, the Dayton chamber’s vice president of operations.

“Whether you up and move your family, your spouse and sell your home, that’s a very personal decision,” said Deb Norris, vice president of workforce development for Sinclair Community College.

Already, several companies have registered on the site, including NCR spin-off Teradata, LexisNexis, GE Aviation, CDO Technologies, Serco, Inc. and others.

The idea is two-fold, say those behind the site: Dispel the myths that Atlanta has no problems and Dayton has no jobs.

For example, the site says the Dayton area has more undergraduate students and Ph.D.s than the Atlanta area.

Citing data from Salary.com, the site also says Atlanta’s cost of living is 13.5 percent higher than Dayton’s while Atlanta employers “typically pay only 0.9 percent” more than Dayton employers.

“We can talk about these things because it’s our community,” Ashworth said.
