2 new ‘pop-up’ shops coming to downtown Dayton

Two new businesses are preparing to open in June in downtown Dayton as part of a “Pop-Up Shops” program launched in 2011.

Fronana, 27 W. First St., will offer ice-cream-like frozen treats, made from bananas, that have no dairy, sugar, artificial ingredients, or preservatives. Owner Bobby Walker has been serving the treats at local festivals over the last year.

Twist Cupcakery, 25 S. St. Clair St. in space that previously housed Serendipity Bistro on the ground floor of the St. Clair Lofts, will specialize in cupcakes, cakes, brownies, and cookies. Owner Alexandra Rivers said her business will be a full-service bakery.

The new shops are part of the eighth phase of the Pop-Up Project, part of an initiative to fill downtown storefronts called Activated Spaces that launched the Pop-Up Project in November 2011. It provides potential business owners the opportunity for shorter leases at below-market rates as a way for them to jump-start their businesses.
