American Honda Motor Co.’s Ohio auto plants in Marysville and East Liberty produced 463,596 cars and light trucks in 2009, or nearly half of Honda’s North American production (2,030,958).

In 2009, the Marysville plant produced 301,995 vehicles, while the East Liberty plant produced 161,601, Honda said late last week.

An all-time high of 83.8 percent of the Honda and Acura automobiles sold in the U.S. in 2009 were produced at the company’s plants in North America, the company said.

Honda operates seven automobile plants in North America – four in the U.S., two in Canada and one in Mexico, producing 15 different models, including the Civic sedan, coupe and GX (natural gas vehicle), Accord sedan, coupe and Crosstour, Odyssey, Pilot, Ridgeline, CR-V and Element, as well as the Acura TL, ZDX, RDX and MDX models.

Today, Honda has about 14,000 employees in Ohio, including several hundred at a Troy distribution site.
