XENIA – Developers want to build a $5 million retail center here.
Plans call for the initial phase of Xenia CenterPlace will include two buildings, each measuring about 8,000 square feet.
The proposed project is a collaboration between Equity Inc. and the Leslie Group Inc., said Kelly Gray, a vice president with Equity’s office in Dayton.
Though phase one will cover five acres at Harner and South Progress drives, executives anticipate the project will encompass 21 acres when it’s fully developed, Gray said.
Developers hope to break ground by the end of September, if they can sign enough tenants by then, Gray said. No tenants have been signed yet, she said.
“We do have a decent bit of interest,” she said. “There are some tenants who are starting to get active and they are looking for opportunities.”
Retail vacancies in the Dayton region have declined over the last four quarters and in the second quarter stood at 9.1 percent, according to CoStar Group, a commercial real estate data company.
In general, Gray said national retailers have become more active in making offers on store space.
