DAYTON — Sinclair Community College will partner with the University of Dayton and aerial mapping company Woolpert Inc. to offer training in operation of unmanned aerial vehicles and their electronic payloads, Sinclair officials said Wednesday.
UD’s Institute for Development and Commercialization of Advanced Sensor Technology (IDCAST), which specializes in research and development of electronic sensor devices, will be a partner. The training program, under discussion in the region since January 2010, will be supported by Sinclair’s new National UAV Education, Training and Certification Center.
The three-to-five day program will start in June. It is to include classroom instruction and simulator sessions focusing on sensor technologies, data links, UAV operations in various environments and integration of UAV systems, Sinclair officials said.
Training will be offered at IDCAST’s Tech Town facilities, Sinclair’s downtown Dayton location and the college’s Miami Valley Research Park site in Kettering.
The training is open to companies and individuals. For more information, they may call (937) 512-5741 or send an e-mail to erika.deborde@sinclair.edu.
Dayton region leaders are also working with Ohio’s congressional delegation, in support of the Air Force, to obtain Federal Aviation Administration approval of southwest Ohio airspace in which UAVs could be flown for research and development of sensor payloads.
