Sriracha craze in Ohio continues with new Wendy’s offerings

Wendy’s has joined the sriracha frenzy, bringing the heat with a new kind of sandwich and fries.

The fast-casual restaurant has debuted its “Spicy Sriracha Chicken Sandwich” and new bacon sriracha fries. The spicy items will only be available for a limited time, according to the company.

How spicy can it get? The sandwich starts with a toasted sriracha-infused bun, a dollop of sriracha aioli, customized sriracha jack cheese and all of the sauce you can handle.

“We did more than just spread or drizzle Sriracha on a chicken sandwich,” said Carl Loredo, vice president of marketing and advertising at Wendy’s. “We went all in and infused sriracha in the entire sandwich – delivering the maximum amount of flavor from the first bite until the last.”

The sandwich goes for about $5.39 and the fries for $1.99.

Wendy's isn't the only fast food joint to spice up their menu. In mid-November, McDonald's announced it was test-marketing a new Big Mac with sriracha sauce — and making the sriracha-spiked condiment available separately as a dipping sauce so diners can spice up their french fries and chicken McNuggets.

The offer is available in central-Ohio locations through the end of the year.
