5 things to know: Gander Mountain in Huber Heights to remain open

Outdoor retail giant Gander Mountain advertised that it was closing all of its stores nationwide, but the new company owner said that is not the case.

Gander Mountain, which has a location in Huber Heights at 8001 Old Troy Pike, filed for bankruptcy back in March. Here’s what to know about the latest updates:

1. According to the Gander Mountain website, a liquidation sale is already underway at the 126 stores across the country, including the location at 8001 Old Troy Pike. A sign hanging on the outside of the Huber Heights store reads “Going Out Of Business” and “Store Closing” when our crew visited the store Sunday morning.

2. Camping World CEO Marcus Lemonis said not all the Gander Mountain stores are closing, despite information posted on the Gander Mountain home page. Lemonis said Camping World purchased a portion of the Gander Mountain business.

3. Lemonis posted a list of 70 stores that would remain open, and two stores in Ohio will stay open — the Huber Heights location and another store in Reynoldsberg. Around 70 stores would remain open. He posted a video on Twitter about the store closing updates.

4. “Myself, along with the Camping World team, went in and we bought the intellectual property, brand, the assets,” Lemonis said in a video on social media Sunday morning. “What we did not buy is the inventory that’s in all of the stores, the distribution center, and a group of liquidators bought that.”

5. In March, Gander Mountain filed for voluntary Chapter 11 bankruptcy and restructured the store and in May the company was acquired by Camping World Holdings, Inc.
