Tipp
to get green housing

Hot Topics

Homes By Bruns says next year it will bring green housing to Rosewood Creek, its residential development in Tipp City.

The more than 70 single-family homes will be situated in a gated community within the development, located at Peters and Kessler-Cowlesville roads, in Miami County, said Randy Bruns, president of Homes By Bruns.

The builder, a subsidiary of Bruns General Contracting, will use panels of autoclaved aerated concrete — a porous material that provides increased fire resistance, energy efficiency and durability — for the homes’ exterior walls. The panels will be provided by Performance Concrete, another Bruns division. The homes also will include other so-called green features such as geothermal heating and cooling.

Randy Bruns said crews plan to start working on roads, curbs and gutters in February or March of next year with construction of the first phase of 12 homes forecast to begin in June or July.

By the time crews begin turning dirt next year, it will have taken three years to plan and begin the project, with most of the time going to fine-tuning the designs for the homes and the placement of the homes, he said. The homes primarily have been designed by Jeff Baker, an architect with Bruns General Contracting, along with a second architect from Columbus.

“It’s one of those things where when we get the final rendition done, it’s going to be pretty amazing,” Bruns said.

Bruns General Contracting developed 110-acre Rosewood Creek in 2003.
