VANDALIA — The Navy has awarded a $12.4 million contract to Lion-Vallen Industries to manage a Marine Corps warehouse network that distributes infantry combat equipment, protective masks and other gear.
The one-year contract is intended as a bridge while the government conducts a competition for a longer-term contract for the task, the Defense Department said.
The network includes Marine facilities in Okinawa, Japan, and across the United States. The contract is to be completed by Aug. 11, 2012.
Lion-Vallen Industries started as a 50-50 joint venture partnership with Hagemeyer N.A., formerly Vallen Safety Supply Co. It is now owned and operated by Lion, a Vandalia-based company that also supplies protective equipment to firefighters and police departments.
