DAYTON — Even with growing unemployment numbers and economic turmoil, there still are jobs that are consistently hard to fill, according to Manpower’s annual “Ten Hardest Jobs to Fill” survey released Wednesday, May 27.
Dayton Metro’s list differed slightly from the national list including high-level administrative, graphic designers, welders and customer service/call service jobs.
The national list of hardest jobs to fill includes engineers, IT staff, skilled trades and machinists. Every city will differ from one another depending on its economic conditions and business opportunities, said Tom Maher, president / CEO of Manpower of Dayton Inc.
Dayton Metro’s list of hard-to-fill jobs has been transforming, as in the past the region would have had trouble filling needed entry-level positions.
“It’s the fact of the global economy today is everyone needs to take personal responsibility to upskill themselves,” Maher said.
There were no surprises on the list for Maher, all 10 job categories on the 2009 list have appeared on the Hardest Jobs to Fill list in the past. Technicians, Machinist/Machine Operators and Sales Representatives all have been present four years. Engineers and Laborers have appeared three out of four years; and Nurses, Teachers, Skilled/Manual Trades and IT Staff have been present in two of the four years Manpower performed the survey.
