Enclosed breezeway adds versatility to plan

Contributing Writer

With its brick exterior and updated vinyl windows, this two-story home in Clay Twp. is nearly maintenance-free. A two-car garage is attached by an enclosed breezeway, which allows for additional living space flexibility. The house sits on nearly a half-acre lot.

Listed for $165,000 by Better Homes and Gardens Real Estate Big Hill, the house at 9069 National Road has about 2,600 square feet of living space. The attached garage has a brick exterior with two bay doors, a rear service door and pull-down attic storage.

Formal entry opens from the updated front door directly into the living room. A wood-burning insert is at the center of a full brick wall that has a brick hearth and wood-beam mantel. An open staircase with wood spindles ascends along the back wall, and a picture window allows for plenty of natural light.

At the center of the home is a dining room or possible family room. A door opens off the dining room to the enclosed breezeway that leads to the garage. The breezeway has windows and a front door.

Another door opens into a full bathroom with vinyl flooring. The bath has a tub/shower, oak vanity with single sink and matching oak medicine cabinet. There is a double-door linen closet, and just outside the bathroom is another storage closet.

Straight back at the rear of the house is the eat-in kitchen. One wall has oak cabinetry, countertops and a double-sink below a window. Appliances include a dishwasher and range. At one end of the kitchen is a brick wall that has two built-in storage nooks. One is large enough for small appliances while the other is designed to hold glasses and bottles.

On the dining end of the kitchen is a built-in display case with open shelves and a tall, floor-to-ceiling window. The kitchen and breakfast area have a tongue-and-groove wood ceiling with exposed wood beams. Wood-laminate flooring fills both rooms.

Off the breakfast room, a split door opens into a mud room, which has laundry hook-ups, storage cabinets, rear access and access to the garage. The home’s mechanicals include a water softener. The entire room has terra cotta-tile flooring.

The upstairs can be closed off as the staircase ends with a closed door. Currently the room is set up as a bedroom as there is a double-door closet and front window. There is also a built-in desk with shelves above so the space could be converted into an office or recreational room.

A hallway leads off this open space to three private bedrooms and a full bathroom. The largest bedroom is at the front of the home and has three windows and two double-door closets. The two smaller bedrooms have built-in drawers beneath the sliding-door closet and built-in shelves.

The full bathroom features a tub/shower with glass-block window, a single-sink vanity and vinyl flooring.
