3162 BLOSSOM HEATH ROAD, KETTERING

Updated, raised ranch enjoys wooded lot

A unique floor plan provides about 4,055 square feet of living space in the raised ranch home at 3162 Blossom Heath Road in Kettering.

Unusual features appear around every corner, and many updates have been completed in recent years, such as sleekly remodeled bathrooms and a kitchen that is functional and attractive. Recent improvements by current owners during the past three years include replacing carpet, adding a large amount of bamboo flooring and installing designer lighting in many rooms.

“I think the home has a lot of character,” said one owner. “I am sorry to be leaving it.”

“It has an awesome back yard – a haven for butterflies, birds and occasional deer,” she said.

Greg Gillen of Irongate Inc. Realtors lists this home for $399,000.

Hydrangea blooms cascade over one of the stone retainer walls flanking the steps to the main entrance. The front door opens into an octagonal turret, its floor covered with slate tile.

Naturally stained bamboo flooring enhances the living room and most of the rooms that extend from it. Natural stone facing and a marble tile hearth accent the fireplace at one end of the long living room with the opposite end used as a formal dining area.

One step up from the living room is a large versatile room surrounded by arched windows and sliding glass doors to the back pebbled area with stepping stones leading to the patio. Complete privacy reigns in the back yard with tall trees and blooming bushes at the far edge of the terraced green space framed with stone retainer walls. An octagonal stone potting shed sits at one corner of the upper terrace.

A designer chandelier centers this versatile room, which could be used as music room, morning room, for exercise or meditation.

In the office, more sliding glass doors access the gardens and patio. Bookshelves are recessed into the wall, and French doors open to a deep storage closet.

A cathedral ceiling with skylights rises above the long gathering area at the back of the home, incorporating breakfast area, kitchen and TV/family room. Various windows face the gardens, and French doors in the breakfast area open to the patio. A German-made rectangular stove is installed on a slate tiled square at the center of the gathering area.

“It really heats this room quickly,” said the owner.

The galley-style kitchen provides double work spaces topped with specially finished concrete counters, including an island on one side and a peninsular counter, which acts as a separation from the TV/family room as it extends from the back wall.

Mosaic tile covers the backsplash areas. A farm sink with a front apron sits under wall cabinets with frosted glass doors. Hanging lights accent the island, which holds a five-burner gas cooktop. Stainless-steel appliances include a dishwasher, stacked double ovens, microwave and refrigerator.

Sleeping quarters provide three bedrooms, each with individual styling characteristics and private full baths. The main bedroom suite offers a bath with a separate step-in shower and a jetted oval soaking tub set in ceramic tile that matches the flooring. Sconces accent the two separate vanities with glass vessel bowls atop furniture-like cabinets. The walk-in closet has organizer shelves. Similar choices in updated styles enhance all the other baths in the home.

Split basement areas create recreational/relaxing spaces and functional areas. A spindled staircase off the living room descends to a wide landing topped with stacked windows rising to the ceiling to provide abundant light and treetop views. The landing accesses two finished rooms, one with a fireplace, adjacent half-bath and storage closet. The other room connects to a larger half bath with a built-in sauna.

A second staircase near the kitchen and family room descends to a hallway, which accesses laundry area, utility room and three-car garage.

“It’s really private here, and we like the close proximity to Hills & Dales Park,” said the owner.
