A traditional Colonial has been transformed to include a spacious great room that blends custom details with open floor plans and large windows.

Listed for $550,000 by Better Homes and Gardens Real Estate Big Hill, the brick two-story at 4966 Ashwyck Place in Kettering has about 4,155 square feet of living space. The house has a full, unfinished basement that is plumbed for a bath and walks out to the back yard. There is also a detached, two-car garage, composite decks, stone patios and wrought-iron fenced back yard.

Formal entry opens into a foyer with hardwood flooring that fills the entire main level of the house. Formal living room and dining room are to the left and right off the foyer. The dining room has a gas fireplace flanked by built-in china cabinets.

Tucked off the foyer hallway is the entrance to a first-floor bedroom suite. The bedroom has a walk-in closet and patio door access to one of two composite decks. The full bathroom features a walk-in shower and bureau vanity with single sink.

A custom-built wet bar is the centerpiece to the combined great room, kitchen and breakfast room. The bar complements the wood cabinetry of the kitchen, which has a tongue-and-groove tray ceiling, wrap-around peninsula counter with seating for four and includes a vegetable sink and storage. A window is above a double sink, and a steamer sink is next to the six-burner gas range with industrial hook-vent.

Cabinetry surrounds the refrigerator, and a warmer drawer is below the buffet counter. A walk-in pantry is located off the hallway between the kitchen and dining room. Additional cabinetry fills one wall of the mudroom, which has front and back exits as well as access to a half bathroom and the garage. The rear exit opens to a second composite deck surrounding a sunken hot tub.

Patio doors off the breakfast nook open to the outside deck, and a second set opens into the four-season Florida room with walls of windows and patio door.

Four skylights and a full wall box window provide the two-story great room with plenty of natural light. A gas fireplace is surrounded by cabinetry and speakers. Above the fireplace is a loft library with built-in bookcases and windows. The loft wraps around two walls of the great room and has spindle accents.

The divided staircase leads to the guest wing and the main bedroom wing of the upstairs. The main bedroom has a gas fireplace and pass-through walk-in closet with built-in organizers. The private bathroom features a free-standing soaking tub, a walk-in ceramic shower with glass accents and a tall vanity with double sinks and built-in storage. Across the hallway of the bedroom is a large laundry room with folding counters, wash sink, cabinetry and a walk-in closet. A door opens from the laundry room out to the loft library.
