Kitchen has been updated; third-floor finished for space

Contributing Writer

Leaded, stained-glass windows add charm to every room of this two-story frame house. An updated kitchen blends well with the original hardwood floors and detailed fireplaces, and a third-floor bonus room offers living space possibilities.

Listed for $271,450 by Irongate Inc. Realtors, the home at 116 Rubicon Road in Oakwood has about 1,660 square feet of living space. The house has a front covered porch, fenced back yard and a two-car, detached garage accessible from a cul-de-sac alley. The back yard is relatively maintenance-free as the entire yard is paver bricks with a tiered garden to one side. The garage has a keypad service door entry and is built into the hillside, slightly lower than the back yard.

Formal entry opens from the porch into the living room with hardwood flooring. A gas fireplace has wood mantel. All the windows have various stained-glass or leaded-glass designs, and the window treatment continues into all the rooms of the house.

French doors open off the living room into the dining room, which has access to the kitchen. The kitchen has been updated with granite countertops, complementing cabinetry and stainless-steel appliances, including a dishwasher and gas range. A window is above the single-sink, and a single door opens to the screen-enclosed rear porch that opens into the courtyard back yard.

A half bathroom is off the kitchen and features a painted wood floor that complements the white fixtures and trim.

A short hallway completes the circular floor plan of the main level and provides access to the basement and the stairwell to the second floor where there are three bedrooms and a full bathroom.

The main bedroom is at the front of the house and has several windows, a decorative fireplace with ceramic surround, two closets and a hardwood floor. The larger rear bedroom has two closets, a furniture nook and a door that opens out to a balcony deck. The smallest bedroom has a single closet.

The full bathroom has a subway-tile surround shower with a whirlpool tub, a pedestal sink and white wainscoting.

A door off the upstairs hallway opens to a hidden stairwell that leads to the finished third level. The room has an angled ceiling, partial wall railing, carpeting and several door accesses to attic storage.

The full, unfinished basement has the home’s mechanical systems, laundry hook-ups and glass block windows.
