Visitors to 950 Blackfoot Trail are drawn immediately to the view at the back of the home.
“I wanted everything to be looking right to the lake,” said the owner, who designed the home with specific ideas and the help of an architect.
Lynda Sagraves of Prudential One Realtors said, “When you live on the lake, the front is in the back.”
Indeed this home’s design reverses the idea of curb appeal to lakefront appeal with stunning main-level window arrangements, a full-sized deck that connects to the lower-level patio, greenspace that gently slopes to the pavilion atop a boat house and a pebbled sitting area at the lake’s edge.
Located in New Jasper Twp. with a Jamestown mailing address, this home is in the Shawnee Hills community, where residents enjoy private use of Shawnee Lake, which extends into Silvercreek Twp.
The lake view is enjoyable with each change of season, whether day or night.
“At night it’s beautiful with the reflections off the water,” the owner said.
Attention was given to an open-flow floor plan, details in the wood trim and other features inside the home.
“It’s the architect’s design and the way the walls are cut in,” Sagraves said. “The open floor plan is an important feature.”
Listed for $425,000, this brick home offers about 3,360 square feet of living space.
Clusters of trees flank the driveway, which ends at a parking pad near the front door. Landscaping includes an aesthetic combination of ferns and impatiens.
Pre-finished hardwood flooring and solid six-panel oak doors are seen throughout the main floor.
With a closet enclosed in double sliding doors and neutral carpeting, the study could be an extra bedroom. Nearby is a half-bath with a pedestal sink.
The entry leads into the open dining area and the great room, which along with the kitchen, sit under a cathedral-styled ceiling rising 17 feet.
The wall of windows enhances the cathedral style with various shapes coming to a point, steeple-like, at the top.
“The wood-burning fireplace has a gas line,” Sagraves said. “There is also a line for a gas grill (on the deck),” she said. “The propane tank for heating is buried.”
Near the dining area, a freestanding wall partially separates the fully equipped kitchen, where acrylic counters suggest the granite look.
One counter, behind the freestanding wall, holds a smooth-top range and circles into more workspace below the tiered breakfast bar, which is accessible from the open great room.
The ceiling above the opposite kitchen wall holds two skylights. Wood cabinets and drawers provide plenty of storage space.
A pocket door encloses the laundry room, which has matching cabinets, a deep sink and access to the two-car garage, where overhead storage space is floored.
The main bedroom suite features private access to the deck. Pocket doors enclose the walk-in closet and the private bath. Oak cabinets flanking the double vanity in the bath integrate a linen cupboard. Offering a rain showerhead and a corner seat, the shower is completely surrounded in earth-toned ceramic tile.
Near the entry, the stairwell descends to the lower-level gathering area, where the spacious recreation room accommodates game tables and a sitting area. A wall of windows integrates a glass door to the patio.
Three more bedrooms are located on this level. There is a central bath with a double vanity, tub and shower.
Landscaping in the back includes trees, impatiens, petunias and other flowering plants. Electrical wiring allows lighting in the pavilion, which has a deck floor and is surrounded by a railing.
A brick path circles aside the pavilion to the pebbled sitting area at lake’s edge.
“I think this is a perfect house — it works,” the owner said. “You can have 100 people here.
“The Fourth of July is awesome. You have a front row seat for the fireworks on the lake,” the owner said.
