As a former Homearama site in 2003 and 2006, Cypress Ridge in Clearcreek Twp. retains prestige for its custom homes and 1-acre lots.
Situated at 1659 Grand Cypress Blvd. is a two-story brick home, which offers about 5,000 square feet of living space. Current owners Anita and David Garvie designed and finished the basement in 2006 as a comfortable recreation space, including an equipped media room.
This home is listed for $465,000.
“It’s priced well below what the owners have in it,” said Billie Duncan-Hart of Coldwell Banker Heritage Realtors.
Flowerbeds landscaped with holly bushes and lavender complement the brick façade, which has steep gables to afford interior ceiling heights.
“I like the traditional style from the outside,” Anita Garvie said. “It’s very light (inside), and I like the views.”
“There’s a lot of natural light —it’s even bright on a gray day,” Duncan-Hart said. “And it was all freshly painted.”
An arched window sits above the front door, which has an etched- glass insert and matching sidelights. Hardwood flooring extends to a walkaround and into the kitchen.
A tray ceiling, crown moldings and chairguards enhance the open formal dining area. The living room with inset carpeting offers a double- window front view.
The library is distinguished by a coffered ceiling with crown moldings and painted borders to match the walls.
A cathedral ceiling rises above the open great room and continues over the loft area. An extended mantel with panels and dentil detailing frames the gas-log fireplace, which is flanked by recessed bookshelves with arched tops.
Windows of varying sizes fill one wall to bring in a view of the landscaped back yard, where flowerbeds with daisies, sedum and tulips flank the rounded patio. Mingled with the flowers are tomato plants and herbs.
“I really enjoy gardening,” Anita Garvie said. “I have a lot of fruits and vegetables: apples, grapes, canteloupe and raspberries. I’ve got heaps of herbs: oregano, thyme, lemongrass. It’s really fun to cook from my garden.
“I do like the kitchen and its openness to the great windows. It’s very private because the neighbors are quite far.”
Oversized maple cabinets and granite counters frame the kitchen, which is equipped with stainless-steel appliances, including a dishwasher, refrigerator, stacked ovens and cooktop.
The center island has an overhang at one end for bar seating. The breakfast area separates the kitchen from the great room.
A hallway off the kitchen begins with a butler’s pantry and ends near the back entrance with a walk-in coat closet, called a mudroom by the Garvies.
Neutral faux paint with a bit of sparkle brightens the wall of the front entry and extends along the front staircase to the upper level, which has four bedrooms, two baths and a laundry room.
A tray ceiling with coved edges enhances the main bedroom suite. In one corner of the bath is an oval garden tub surrounded in bordered ceramic tile. Next to the shower is built-in seating.
A wall on the lower level holds a hand-painted mural of open windows with nature scenes. Neutral carpeting and walls accent the game-table area, which extends to a sitting area with a gas-log fireplace.
An L-shaped, granite wet bar with seating includes a built-in wine rack and contemporary track lighting. Double doors open to the theater room, which is equipped with an overhead projector and a built-in large screen.
“We spend the most time here, in what we designed. It’s cool in summer and warm in winter,” David Garvie said.
An extra room is available as an office, an arts-and-crafts room or other versatile use. The full bath offers a designer vanity and a ceramic-tiled corner shower;
“There is no association fee at Cypress Ridge,” Duncan-Hart said. “The developer continues to take care of the entrance grounds.”
