Chase Cochran didn’t want his future to wait any longer. So the Lebanon High School senior-to-be ended his recruiting process Wednesday, July 1, choosing to become an Ohio Bobcat.

The wide receiver called Ohio head coach Frank Solich and verbally committed after returning home from a family vacation.

“It’s pretty exciting. I’m glad to get it out of the way,” Cochran said. “I went on vacation with the family to relax and get away from football for a while, then sat down and looked at all of my options.

“Once I thought about it, Ohio was an easy choice. They were the most sincere and truthful coaching staff through the entire process, and I felt very comfortable there. Plus, I think I can get some playing time pretty early there, which was a factor.”

Cochran had three full scholarships offer to choose from — Ohio, the Air Force Academy and the Naval Academy. He also was recruited by Cincinnati, Indiana and Northwestern, but did not receive formal offers.

“I could have waited, but I wanted to get it out of the way before the season started,” Cochran said. “When the whole process began, I decided I wanted to let the offseason be about recruiting but didn’t want anything to take away from our football season. Now it’s time to focus on winning the league and making the playoffs.”

Lebanon coach Shawn Lamb was pleased with Cochran’s decision: “We’re excited for Chase. He’s very deserving of having the opportunity to play college football. He’ll do a good job and represent Lebanon football in a very classy and hard-working way.”
