DAYTON — Gary Simms is a self-proclaimed “football fanatic.” His wife, Gaynelle, just wanted to get out of the house.
The Dayton couple joined football fans in the Kettering Tower lobby downtown on Sunday, Feb. 7, to watch Super Bowl XLIV on a jumbo 16-foot television screen.
“I thought it would be good to get out and get into another environment,” Gaynelle said.
Brandon McKinney, a CJ grad who plays for the Baltimore Ravens, hosted the party.
Former prep football coach Michael Perry, co-owner of Michael’s Restaurant also in the Kettering Bank Tower, organized the event. United Health Services received some of the proceeds.
“I’m a football guy,” Perry said. “I wanted to provide a nice environment for people to watch the game.”
For free general admission patrons, raffle prizes included two tickets to the 2010 Ravens vs Bengals game and two tickets to the Ravens vs Browns game. Sky Box Seating, at $15 per person, came with a chance to win two tickets to the 2011 Super Bowl, free food, and drink specials.
Perry hopes to grow a larger crowd with a repeat event this spring during the NCAA Final Four games.
