Ochocinco and T.O. never short on work

One of the lasting images we have of Terrell Owens involves him pounding push-ups in his driveway while the media asked questions and taped the ordeal.

Hey, at least he was working out.

Then, last summer, we learned more about Chad Ochocinco’s work ethic on the HBO series “Hard Knocks,” which underlined how much the Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver does to stay in shape.

Now that the two are teammates in Cincinnati, some have wondered how they’ll get along with each other and with the team. But, especially with news from other teams this week, fans have to feel good about their attention to fitness and conditioning.

First, there was news from Baltimore that massive defensive lineman and Alabama product Terrence Cody failed a conditioning test and wasn’t allowed to practice until he passed the test. Then Redskins defender Albert Haynesworth ended his boycott of the team and returned to a demand from coach Mike Shanahan that he pass his own conditioning test.

Fans feel even less sympathy for highly paid players if they aren’t working hard. Which is why, no matter what other problems they might have caused or issues they create in the locker room, we have to respect the way that they come to work prepared.

Especially when you see the images of those who don’t.
