Commentary: Spare us a 2-Harbaugh Super Bowl

Here are some of the better reasons to root for the New England Patriots and New York Giants on Sunday:

• Wins by those teams in their respective conference championship games would produce a rematch of Super Bowl XLII, and who (except maybe for an LSU fan) can resist a rematch? Be ready, however, for the profile of retired Giants receiver David Tyree, whose catch against his helmet while falling down remains the signature play of the earlier meeting. Today, Tyree is a recovering alcoholic turned born-again Christian who has said same-sex marriage will lead to “anarchy.”

• Giants coach Tom Coughlin always seems to be on the hot seat despite going to Super Bowls. And his face gets so red you fear he might have a stroke right there on the sideline. High drama.

• OK, it’s the bitter Browns fan in me (childhood thing, can’t help it), but the Baltimore Ravens are what the Browns should be. They were the Browns, in fact, before owner Art Modell uprooted them. Modell doesn’t own the team anymore, but that purple Ravens uniform forever will remind Browns fans of his chicanery. And, no, he doesn’t belong in the Hall of Fame.

• Ravens coach John Harbaugh should lose because he once said of Modell: “He did everything he could to keep the franchise in Cleveland, and providence didn’t make that happen.” Only a moron thinks Modell “did everything” to keep the Browns in Cleveland.

• Brother Jim Harbaugh coaches the 49ers and a Harbaugh-vs.-Harbaugh Super Bowl would be unwatchable. Well, at least the hype would be, and I like hype. The coaches shouldn’t overshadow the quarterbacks.
