Archie Griffin’s kid carves own identity in football tourney

Hot Topics

There’s already significant pressure on players in the second round of the high school football playoffs, but there’s someone in particular who will face significant weight at Welcome Stadium on Friday, Nov. 13.

Columbus St. Francis DeSales running back Adam Griffin is the son of legendary Ohio State running back Archie Griffin. So, not only does he play football, but he plays football for a school in the same city where his father remains a prominent figure.

DeSales is set to face Tippecanoe in a Division III, Region 10 semifinal, and Griffin has helped his team reach this point. Last week, he scored three touchdowns, including twice on runs and once on a 61-yard punt return.

It seems almost unfair that Griffin would be in this situation, but he appears to be handling things well. He seemed very levelheaded in his comments after last week’s game to the Columbus Dispatch.

“I’m not my dad,” Griffin told the Dispatch. “I play like Adam plays, not the way Archie played. I do talk about football with my dad, but he doesn’t teach me things. He lets me be myself. My dad just wants me to play.”

DeSales is the same school Clark Kellogg’s sons attended, and they have been skilled basketball players. Seems like it could be the same with Griffin’s son on the gridiron.

Still, that’s a heavy name to carry in that town.

The article about Archie's kid caught my eye immediately. Truth is, I'd rather read about him than your mailman's kid, Tom-from-8:17-AM. Your reading comprehension skills suffer: nowhere in the piece was it evident that the writer ever encountered Mr. Griffin himself, sourpuss.

Why are you not writing articles about local kids in the playoffs instead of kids with famous parents from Columbus? Was this a chance to meet Archie and get an autograph?
