Fourth quarter carries Carroll past Belmont
A fourth-quarter surge lifted host Carroll past Belmont and to a 43-38 victory in high school boys basketball action on Saturday, Dec. 5. The Patriots and Bison were tied 29-29 entering the fourth quarter.
D.J. McCommons paced the Patriots with 15 points and Trez Jones added 14.
Rickey Cooper was the Bison’s leading scorer with 11 points.
Carroll enjoyed an advantage from the free-throw line, hitting 25-of-43 attempts. Belmont made 1 of 4 from the stripe.
Carroll won its season opener, while Belmont fell to 1-2.
Bellbrook 71, Fairborn 59: John Thacker and Chris Lynch scored 16 points each and Daveon Greene and Chris Hamilton both added 15 points for the host Golden Eagles.
Kendrick Williams scored 29 points in a losing effort.
Bellbrook improved to 2-0, while Fairborn dropped its season opener.
Mason 53, Lebanon 40: The visiting Warriors couldn’t find their rhythm against the Comets.
A.J. Walter and Dusty Isaacs scored seven points to lead Lebanon.
Ethan King shot 7 of 7 from the foul line on his way to 15 points for Mason.
It was the season opener for both teams.
Chillicothe 67, Xenia 53: A five-point third quarter proved costly for the Bucs at Chillicothe.
Shane Eagle scored 14 points and Marques Greene added 11 for Xenia, playing its season opener.
Stivers 64, Waynesville 48: The Tigers used a second-half rally to pull ahead of the visiting Spartans.
Regis Motley led Stivers with 19 points and Brooklyn Bradley added 15.
Chase Gianattasio scored 12 points in a losing effort.
Stivers improved to 2-0. Waynesville dropped to 0-2.
Bethel 75, Northridge 74: A fourth-quarter rally gave the visiting Bees the victory.
Jon Sutton paced Bethel with 20 points. Frank Spells scored 26 for the Polar Bears.
Bethel improved to 2-0, Northridge fell to 0-1.
Troy 77, Greenville 48: A 49-point showing in the second half gave the host Trojans the advantage.
D.J. Martinez led the Troy offensive with 25 points.
Graham Luce connected on three 3-point field goals and led the Green Wave with 14 points.
Troy improved to 2-0, while Greenville fell to 0-2.
