Players to watch

Jenny Bashore, sr., Tippecanoe: Stellar shortstop led D-II regional finalists with 45 hits and was named first-team all-Midwest Region for the National Fastpitch Coaches Association. A key player if the Red Devils are to reach state.

Bethany Campbell, sr., Lebanon: Hurler powered Warriors to fifth district final and third championship in seven seasons with 21-7 record, 0.61 ERA and 271 strikeouts. Also hit .375 with 21 RBIs.

Rachel Drinnon, sr., Brookville: A key reason the Blue Devils have won four straight Southwestern Buckeye League Southwestern Division titles, and 54 of their last 55 SWBL games. Enters final season 42-5 in her career.

Brittany Duncan, jr., Fairborn: Area’s top hitter led the Skyhawks in average (.623), hits (48), RBI (33), doubles (11) and home runs (5). Don’t be surprised to see her lead the area in walks — mostly intentional. Also just missed the Greater Western Ohio Conference’s triple crown by two homers and 10 RBIs.

Jordyn Fisherback, sr., Greenville: Fisherback blistered opponents with more than 300 strikeouts last season, hurling 41 straight innings without allowing a run then adding another 36-inning streak. Posted 26 wins, including 17 shutouts and six straight at one point, to lead the Green Wave — which drops to D-II this season — to their fourth consecutive district title.

Emily Froment, so., Twin Valley South: The only freshman to make the D-IV all-Ohio team selected by the Ohio High School Fastpitch Softball Coaches Association. And she’s even better this season with a fastball popping at 61 mph for a team that won a school-record 20 games and its first district title.

Kayla Fryman, sr., Northmont: As tough out as they come with just three strikeouts in 61 at-bats last season for the Thunderbolts. Also hit .426 and stole 14 bases. Smooth second baseman also converted 65 of 68 chances without an error (.956 fielding average).

Kacey Locker, jr., Tippecanoe: Hurler could top most of Tipp’s pitching records by career end, most held by her sister Jessica. Locker picked up 18 wins and 218 strikeouts in 2009, both one shy of matching Jessica.

Jamie Schnarr, sr., Fairmont: Versatile infielder led Greater Western Ohio Conference Central Division champs with .566 average, 47 hits, 43 RBIs, 35 runs and 13 doubles.

Savanna Speessen, jr., Valley View: Pitcher and infield gem could be the key to helping Spartans get past a pair of district tournament runner-up finishes past two seasons.
