BEAVERCREEK — There is no mistake in the final score.

Beavercreek actually scored more than 80 points for the second time in five years on Tuesday in an 86-64 win over Xenia in boys high school basketball.

Those 86 points are the most for a Beavercreek boys team in the four years John Ahrns has been the head coach.

The last time the Beavers cracked the big 8-0 was Feb. 18, 2008, in an 85-46 win over Springfield North.

Usually ’Creek is a strictly half- court team. The Beavers are averaging 60.9 points this season. The past three years under Ahrns they’ve averaged 51.1, 47.5 and 48.3 points per game.

Tuesday, however, it was 32 minutes of up-tempo basketball between two ranked teams in a Greater Western Ohio Conference crossover game.

’Creek (7-2) is No. 2 in the Dayton Daily News Division I ratings.

Xenia, also 7-2, is No. 5 and came in with a six-game winning streak.

Xenia also entered as the top-scoring team in the area at 86.6 points per game. Coach Kent Anderson has adopted a press and run, shoot the 3-pointer style this season. It is successful if the 3s are falling and the press is forcing turnovers.

Xenia hit only 6-of-26 from beyond the arc, and ’Creek turned the ball over eight times against the press.

The Beavers consistently broke the press and attacked the basket unofficially getting 58 fast-break points.

“It feels very different,” ’Creek senior Ryan Sedlar said about being able to run the fast break for a full game in his career.

“We think we can be a good running team, but we never get a chance in the GWOC Central games because it is a deliberate style.

“The last few practices we didn’t practice any half court stuff at all. It was all breaking Xenia’s press and running. We broke their pressure most of the time and kept attacking. It was fun.”

Jalen Camper led the winners with 21 points. Airius Moore added 17 points, Sedlar 13 points and nine assists while Kyle Rader and Tyler Reasoner had 10 each.

David Roberts led Xenia with 15 points and Cody Phillippi had 13.
